About Dr Jake | MY STEM DR

Dr Jake is a current practising and passionate classroom teacher of mathematics and STEM, who loves working with teachers and their students to enhance student engagement and achievement. He is also a policy advisor, researcher, author and speaker on educational practice and change in mathematics and STEM education. Dr Jake played a key role in the development of the new NSW Mathematics K-10 syllabus, providing policy advice on content sequencing and content reform, and designed and delivered professional learning for NSW teachers on the K-6 Mathematics syllabus. Dr Jake also led the initial inclusion of numeracy across all new syllabuses.

Dr Jake now works with a range of stakeholders including teachers, school executive, parents, governments and universities. He is currently a sessional lecturer in education and loves working with pre-service teachers. Through Dr Jake's PhD, he developed strong qualitative and quantitative research skills, where he led a longitudinal school-based intervention in mathematics and science classrooms. He can support your school in tracking classroom or school wide interventions, and can turn complicated research outcomes into practical classroom change.

Dr Jake brings a unique perspective to educational consultancy, combining both current classroom teaching experience with strong research skills in classroom settings. He is now excited to share his first-hand knowledge of the new syllabuses in NSW to support both primary and secondary schools and their teachers in preparing for implementation into 2023.

Dr Jake is offering support across the following three areas:

The NEW NSW Mathematics K-6 and 7-10 syllabuses
Numeracy across all NEW NSW K-10 syllabuses
Integrated STEM education in primary and secondary settings.

Dr Jake received his PhD in mathematics and STEM Education from The University of Sydney in 2021. Previous to this, he received his Bachelor of Science and Bachelor of Education (Honours Class 1), with the University Medal, also from The University of Sydney.
